The buying of the “Hawaiirod” (Gallery)

This heavily modified Willy’s Jeep is my absolute favourite toy here in Thailand.

I purchased this car around a year ago from another expat in Pattaya, Thailand. However, the history behind this purchase began 18 months earlier when I saw the car coming towards me on the other side of the road wile I was driving home. Since then I saw the car several times in my neighbourhood, but I was not able to get hold of the owner.

Then, in September 2023 I saw the Jeep listed on Facebook Marketplace. And when I read the ad and noticed that this Hotrod came with a Toyota (Lexus) 1-UZ-FE V8, I was hooked. I contacted the owner pronto and arranged a viewing the same day.

I met the owner, took the car for a test ride around Pattaya together with the seller and my 10 year old son. After about one hour my son and myself were quite burned from the sun, but both of us had a wide smile on our faces. This is a very special car. Nothing like I have ever driven before. And I have driven a lot of different cars.

We agreed on the price and time and place to do the paperwork.
